First thoughts on ‘The Dark Knight Rises’
I will be writing a full (unprofessional, fanboy) review in the near future but I thought I’d give some initial reactions before elaborating:
-Michael Caine and Anne Hathaway’ performances are stand out.
-It’s beautifully shot and edited, and the score is an instant classic.
(possibly spoilerish elements after the cut)
-Bain is excellently chilling, but feels slightly motiveless. I’m not saying this is a bad thing and there is a lot more to say on this so don’t shoot me (yet).
-Previous reviews I have read have mentioned the humourless-ness of it; but I found some parts quite intentionally funny, albeit dark humour. It’s not an overly sombre film, it has a lot to say about the human spirit, both the good and the bad. Still, your not going to be taking the kids to this.
some criticism
-The storyline jumbles at times especially when geographic logistics come in to play. There are a few plotholes some bigger than others, but none near fatal to the storyline.
-The ending: it’s a little rushed (even after almost 3 hours) and it has some aspects that seemed pointless if this was to conclude this storyline.
Overall I really, really loved it, but my thoughts are jumbled and I need to lay them out before I give a final verdict.Follow me on twitter: @dane_mclean
